In 2020, the console gaming market experienced its slowest growth rate since 2015. Globally Players spent $4.5 billion on immersive games until 2020.In 2019, the Gaming industry revenue is $151.55 billion and now the  industry is forecast to grow at a rate of 9.17% from 2020 to 2025.

It is known that the video game industry revenue was $78.61 billion in 2017. According to stats on the video game industry revenue by year, the market is forecast to grow at a rate of 2.29% annually from 2020 to 2024. This will result in an expected market volume of $100.56 billion by 2024.

The gaming companies are investing on game development as they are seeing aggressive growth in the gaming sector and they are focusing on different gaming platforms like desktop, mobile, console, VR, and others. Gaming companies use Big Data analytics for enhancing game design,  interactive and complex scenarios for games and proper understanding of what works well for the audience. For example, data analytics helps companies detect problematic gameplay moments for users.  We can find the problems happening in the game levels and might be too challenging, and the bugs which are causing issues for the users.

King Digital Entertainment, the developer of the Candy Crush Saga game, faced an unforeseen problem as Users were massively abandoning level 65. With 725 levels in total, for Candy Crush Saga such a tendency was quite a trouble. By doing the data analysis the company was able to know the abandoning issue  because of a particular gaming element that didn’t let users make it past level 65. By doing the changes in the game they deleted the element causing isuure and after that user retention rate increases again. 

Improving game monetization

Gaming companies are using Data analytics for how to increase the revenue from the games and How to plan their monetization strategies accordingly. If they have many paid users for the game then they can spend on enhancing game design and user experience. For instance, the gaming company Zynga’s business model was free-to-play and it also had an ad-free premium version. The company managed to increase the paid subscriptions using data analytics by adding extra features for the game. .
