adaptive learningWhen people say that you have to take the Wonderlic test, it is very likely that you are only thinking about the cognitive assessment since it is the most widely used one, both in the hiring process as well as for the purpose of college admissions.

The reason behind this is because the other Wonderlic test assessments are only used in very specific scenarios and depending on the needs of the company or organization.

More often than not, most of them will only administer the Wonderlic test to confirm a person’s cognitive abilities before making them take the personality test of another group or provider.

Unfortunately, being caught off guard by taking a different version of the Wonderlic exam when you prepared for another one will not be seen as a valid excuse by many employers and they will instead assume that you are just making up excuses for doing terribly.

This is why so many aspiring professionals out there take Wonderlic sample test advice seriously, because such things give them a heads up on what to expect in the actual exam in more ways than one.

If you want a solid chance of landing your job position or securing your slot at a prestigious, if not at least well-known college or university, then you need to show that you’re prepared to excel even before you set foot in the testing area.

  • The Wonderlic Cognitive Ability Test

This is known as the ‘default’ version of the Wonderlic assessments and is primarily used for the purposes of employee or student screening.

Like its name, its main purpose is to measure a person’s cognitive abilities and to see if they meet the standards of the organization that they want to join.

When administered as a college entrance exam, it is known and adjusted to be the Wonderlic Scholastic Level Exam (SLE).

If used as a pre-employment test, then a different version of it is used, called the Wonderlic Personnel Test.

The difference between them is that the latter is seen as more difficult because the questions are adjusted to meet collegiate-level difficulty all the while having a higher ‘minimum score’. This score is also increased if there is only a single available job position available and if it is in middle or upper management.

exam difficulty

No matter which version you need to take, the format remains the same: you will need to answer as many of the 50 questions in the exam as possible within a 12-minute time limit.

These questions will come from five main sections: verbal reasoning, numerical reasoning, logical reasoning, deductive reasoning, and graphical and statistical reasoning.

Due to the nature of this exam, the greatest hurdle that you may encounter will be its strict time limit.

This means that in order to tackle it effectively, you will need to practice your time management skills well because most of the questions are easy enough to begin with.

What you need to watch out for, however, is the presence of time trap questions, which are designed to try to make you fail by being absurdly difficult despite being worth only one point like the others.

As a result, it would be best if you either skip them or make an educated guess so that you will have a chance of getting a point nevertheless.

  • The Wonderlic Basic Skills Test (WBST)

This Wonderlic Test only contains two main subjects: a verbal reasoning and a numerical reasoning section.

Like its name, it is meant to measure the basic skills of the test-taker with high school-level difficulty questions.

Compared to the Wonderlic Cognitive Ability Test and its derivatives, this exam is separated into two parts, each of them having a 20-minute time limit, and contains 90 questions in total.

50 of these questions will be for the verbal reasoning section, and the subtopics will revolve around reading comprehension, sentence completion, vocabulary, and grammar.

The last section is reserved for the numerical reasoning subjects where you will encounter questions revolving around the basic operations, fractions, algebra, word problems, and some tables and statistics-based questions.

Like the cognitive ability test, it would be in your best interest to get as much practice as you can with a Wonderlic practice test of sorts.

In doing so, you will be able to familiarize yourself with the subjects included in the exams while also eliminating the pressure of the time limit since you will be able to figure out how to manage your time well for each section or question.

  • The Wonderlic Personal Characteristics Inventory (PCI)

This Wonderlic exam is seen as the most difficult one to prepare for due to it following a survey-type format.

Known in the industry as the Wonderlic personality test, this assessment is designed to see if the candidate’s behavior and workplace ethics are in line with the company’s, ensuring that on the off chance that they are hired, they will be able to adjust their attitude accordingly at the office and act in a way that is expected of an employee of theirs.

Basically, this test is aiming to figure out just how compatible you are with the core values of the company itself along with the duties and responsibilities of the job that you are applying for.

From here, you might have a good idea on what you should do in order to excel in the Wonderlic PCI: research the mission, vision, and core values of the company as well as the responsibilities of the job that you want and pattern your answers well to suit them.

It should be noted, however, that you must avoid answering in the extreme frequently, because there is a good chance that the hiring manager or the test program will assume that you are purposefully manipulating your answers.

If this happens, well, your chances of being hired will be completely dashed because the hiring manager will have very little reason to trust you or your responses.
