maprData center automation company Univa is working with MapR Technologies to integrate its Grid Engine.  The partnership will allow customers to run mixed workloads for enterprise reporting and analytics using the MapR Distribution for Hadoop with the policy control management and infrastructure sharing capabilities of Univa Grid Engine.

Combining the Univa Grid Engine platform with the MapR Distribution for Hadoop, enterprises can deploy a Hadoop solution with enterprise policy controls, such as different end-users securely accessing the cluster to advance fair share rules, according to company officials. Features like support for mixed workloads, scalability and disaster recovery, make it easier for enterprises to deploy Hadoop solutions, officials said.

“Univa Grid Engine is already a key product in the big data infrastructure mix, but with this partnership we are providing customers with integration capabilities to the unrivaled enterprise-class MapR platform for Hadoop,” said Rahul Jain, VP of Big Data, Univa, in a statement.

The partnership made sense because MapR provided advanced enterprise-grade capabilities for Hadoop, while Univa enables key apps in mixed workloads to speed Hadoop deployments, Jain added.

Univa Grid Engine is a resource management software platform used by enterprises and research organizations across the globe. Using Grid Engine, customers can save time and money through increased uptime, according to Jain. Univa’s Grid Engine provides organizations deep understand on the usage on their Hadoop clusters, so IT operations can ensure:

  •     Correct and authorized users are getting access to the cluster
  •     Grid Engine policies are properly applied, are working and enforced
  •     IT operations can accurately chargeback to departments for their usage
  •     IT can measure how long jobs wait in the queue

The MapR enterprise-grade platform supports real-time production uses and brings unprecedented dependability, ease-of-use and world-record speed to Hadoop, NoSQL, databases and streaming applications in one unified big data platform, officials said.

“This announcement is further evidence of the importance of integrating Big Data into enterprise environments,” added Bill Bonin, MapR’s VP of business development. “This partnership lets customers deploy our highly differentiated Hadoop distribution in combination with Univa’s platform, giving customers a compelling, enterprise workload management solution that is flexible and powerful.” by Vance McCarthy source
